Oklahoma Skeptics Society - News & Upcoming Events

Channing Whitaker, a skeptic out of Broken Arrow  will be signing copies of his novel at Mecca Coffee (Brookside - 1330 E 41st St, Tulsa, OK 74105) on Saturday, May 16, from 10am to 1pm. Copies will be available for $16. He’d love to meet some fellow Oklahoma skeptics & freethinkers, and invite everyone to take a look at his book.

He’ll also be appearing at The Tulsa Comic Expo, May 22-24 and will be signing books there as well.

He giving the skeptic in paranormal mysteries a bit of a twist, and the book sounds pretty interesting, so if you're going to be in Tulsa, check him out, and be sure to tell him hi from a fellow skeptic.

The July Skeptics in the Pub is going to be on July 14th, 2014 at Picasso Cafe.  No speaker this time, just a chance to kick back, socialize, and start off the week on a good note.  We will be talking about the O.P.E.R.A. Fair on the 19th, as well as seeking volunteers to help with the Skeptics in the Park all ages event.  Please R.S.V.P. so we don't overwhelm the staff at Picassos.

As promised, HERE is the video of Dr Caleb Lack speaking at the June OKSS Skeptics in the Pub for those that either missed it, or want to relive the experience.  If you enjoyed his talk, let him know by leaving a comment, and be sure to mention OKSS!  This will help us bring more speakers and topics for everyone to listen to and hopefully learn from.  Remember, if you have ideas for speakers, use the "Contact Us" form to let us know.

We are going to begin taking orders for the OKSS shirts, like the one to the right.  If you are interested, you can email [email protected] and tell us the size and quantity.  We are also looking at getting some swag for people to buy or give away wherever we are able to set up a table or booth.

June 2 2014  The speaker for the next Skeptics in the Pub is going to be Dr. Caleb Lack, advisor of the UCO Skeptics.  His talk is titled  "Sharpening & Leveling - How good communication leads you away from the truth".   It will be at Picasso Cafe in OKC on June 9th, from 7-9 pm.  Dr. Lack will have copies of his latest books available for purchase.  Prices range from $13-$30, depending on which one. He has also agreed to sign anyone's copy of one of his books.  Be sure to R.S.V.P. so we have room for everyone.

April 21, 2014  GREAT NEWS! Skeptics in the Pub (SITP) will NOT be on hiatus after all. In fact we're going to begin having regular meetings. We're still planning the all ages Skeptics in the Park event, but we've gathered more volunteers to help plan SITP. Still, there's never too many, so if you would like to help plan SITP, or have discussion or presentation topic ideas, please contact us using the form to the right, the forum, the Facebook page or secret group (send us your email for an invite), the Meetup group, or email [email protected]. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next SITP!

April 15, 2014  The Skeptics in the Pub series will be on a slight hiatus for the summer to give us a chance to put together the Skeptics in the Park event.  We still need people to help, so if you're interested, either use the "contact us" form, or email [email protected] to let us know.  Just be sure to put skeptics in the park in the subject line.
